A 72-golden-hour race of 2008 Tour de Taiwan in the Taipei-Keelung metropolitan area came to an end after entering the Taipei Xinyi Shopping Area as the final stage today. Before the main race, the organizer, Chinese Taipei Cycling Association held “The 3rd Taipei Citizen Elimination Road Race” to examine the achievements of basic cycling promotion. Even though its racing scale is one third of the Taipei Stage (60 laps, 1 km/lap), but several local cycling clubs and senior cyclists participated in this promotional race. Continue Reading »

The 6th Stage of 2008 Tour de Taiwan held its long-distance race through 9 townships including Banciao, Hsinchuang, Wugu, Bali, Tamshui, Jinshan, Sanjhih, Shihmen, and Wanli in Taipei County today. Even though this race is the second longest race in 2008 Tour de Taiwan, the weather challenged 89 cyclists due to an earlier rain in Taipei-Keelung metropolitan area. Continue Reading »

Baguashan – Team Type 1 helped Shawn Milne move within striking distance of successfully defending his title during Stage 3 Tuesday at the Tour de Taiwan.

Milne climbed into third place overall – just six seconds off the overall lead – following the challenging 73-mile (117.4 km) race that featured a plenty of uphill riding in the last 12 miles. Continue Reading »

The 2008 Tour de Taiwan, with a tropic weather in Pingtung County, started its 2nd stage in Pingtung Tropic Agriculture Exposition Park (in Chinese: 屏東熱博園區) and raced around Pingtung Orchid Fern Bicycle Lane (in Chinese: 屏東蘭花蕨自行車道) 8 laps today. With its steadily of lane range, cyclists’ speed, endurance, and physical strength played the key roles in this stage.

In the intermediate period of this race, Sea Keong Loh, Kenichiro Tose, Peter Morse, and Angus Morton ever successively sprinted for a short-term leading, but the “main group” consisted the difference in just a few distance. Finally, 93 groups in main group were finished this race in 2H21m47s, but Marek Wesoły reached the finish line first to won the stage champion.

2008 Tour de Taiwan, with 7 different divisions and 8 stages, started at Love River of Kaohsiung City as its first stage. Not only a site event named “Walking in the Love River for World Games 2009” (in Chinese: 愛河健走,世運加油) was held to support the 2009 World Games in Kaohsiung City, but also a damn hot weather challenged for cyclists’ physical strength.

In the starting of the 3rd lap, there was a sudden blow sound near the 50m flag. According to some witnesses, a cyclist from Health Net Pro Cycling Team was forced to quit this race because his tire blew suddenly due to a damn hot weather and the temperature of the race lane progressively rose up.
