South Australia this morning will celebrate becoming the first stop in world cycling at an official Tour Down Under welcome parade in the city.

Thousands of people are expected to line King William Street from 8am to witness a parade of team cars, bikes and 133 of the best cyclists in the world.

This parade will signify the arrival of UCI ProTour in South Australia.

Premier Mike Rann says the parade will kick off the 2008 Tour Down Under, which heads to Mawson Lakes later in the morning for the start of the Stage 1 race to Angaston.

“Sunday night was a magnificent curtain raiser to this year’s historic Tour, heralding the arrival of the elite UCI ProTour league in South Australia,” Premier Rann says.
