Stage 4 of Jelajah Malaysia (JM) 2008 race today that fell on Maal Hijrah Celebration (First Day of New Year in the Muslim Calendar) showcased the rise of last year’s JM Best Rider, Suhardi Hassan.

Today’s race that started in Batu Pahat and ended in Muar covered a route of 178.8km, Suhardi from Team Kuala Lumpur claimed his victory as he managed to win over the RTM Jersey from Amir Mustafa Rusli (MCF Continental) with a time difference of 4 minutes 33 seconds.

“Earlt today I called up my mother, Halijah Man back home in Perlis. My mother asked me why I’m not on the podium yet. Therefore I told her that I’m going to win it for her in the race today,” he quoted.

Suhardi, 26, said that in the previous three stages he was observing the situation and gave the opportunity to the sprinter to do their job.

Today’s win was a good start in conjunction with 1429 Hijrah, that marks the new year in the Muslim calendar and it has raised his spirit to win more races in the upcoming stages.

Today Suhardi was excellent as he won all 3 sprint zones; Yong Peng, Labis and Gerisek to be in the second position in the fight for the Blue Jersey (Sprint King) with 15 points in hand.

As for the holder of the Blue Jersey (Sprint King), Anuar Manan from Team LeTua hopes that the dawn of Maal Hijrah will bring him more victories this year.

“My main target is to win at least one stage in the upcoming Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL),” he quoted.
