WEEKEND FIXTURES:

Usher Irish Road Club competitor Neil Delahaye has certainly been putting in some very good performances since the season started a month ago.

Unfortunately in recent events, he has met better opposition and has had to settle for the runner-up spot on a number of occasions. Only last week he was second to Ryan Connor of the Giant Asia squad in the Wallace Caldwell Memorial which is one of the counting events in the Ulster Classic league sponsored by Paul Slane a former Olympian and one hell of a competitor! He has to be congratulated for taking the initiative in sponsoring cycling.

Neil will be absent from the Harry Reynolds on Saturday because of a representative honour on behalf of Cycling Leinster at the Tour of Ards, but he’ll be rarin’ to go in defense of the Ben McKenna title that he won in convincing fashion last year, when he spreadeagled the field to win comfortably.

The Ben McKenna Memorial will be jointly sponsored by a new company just set up by Ben’s son Eoin, who is an IT Consultant and two of his friends Brent Arkley and Ivan Barry, who are also IT Consultants. The name of the company is 4Front IT Solutions and they can be contacted through their website www.4frontit.ie and additional sponsorship from the wider McKenna family.

The Jim (Jazzer) Wherity for Senior 3 riders will be sponsored by the Wherity family, who are also organising the Motor Cycle Marshals through the Martin Finnegan Supporters club. Martin is a top class Professional Motor Cycle Racer who will be competing in the Senior 3 race (Without an Engine) for the first time. Martin competes for MV Agusta and this year will be riding an MV Agusta in the IOM TT, first time an MV Agusta has competed in the TT since Augustini rode one in the early 70s. Martin has been training hard on the Pedal Bike in order to keep fit for the Motor cycle racing.
Co-incidentally, Martin’s personal trainer is no other than the great Joe Barr, who was no mean cyclist some years ago. Joe has indicated that he may take part on Sunday, so their is likely to be a bit more Vrooooom in the Senior 3 race. (See Belgian Team on Irish Cycling.com for additional information of the Balbriggan CC promotion).
