Cycleways Cup

The Cycleways Cup is the main attraction this Sunday with an anticipated turnout of at least 200 plus in Navan for the 12.30 start from the Rugby Club for the 76 mile event.
Heading the line-up will be the team who will have a dozen members of the team in action.

If last weekends result in the Lacey Cup in Tralee is a yardstick to go by!

Then Brian Kenneally of the squad holds all the aces. He may not have stole the thunder from Martin O’Loughlin claiming the victory, but Brian’s late surge from off the pack was significant last Sunday.

According to Aidan Crowley a team mate, ”Brian has put time in over the winter and he is at least a month ahead in miles covered out training. Boy!

Can I bear testament to this. Over Christmas he was dancing on the pedals.

That was proved last Sunday in the ‘Kingdom,’ and I have no doubt he’ll be up for it on Sunday,” said Aidan.

The big turn out in Tralee did not bat an eyelid at the presence of the professionals who just thought they had to turn up and collect the Euros that were on offer, unfortunately Irish racing is about attacking, whereas the pros like controlled racing. At least Paul Griffin the race favourite made a serous attempt and finished seventh. The latest recruits to the Sean Kelly team based in Belguim, John Dempsey never made an impact and Morgan Fox suffered the embarrassment of missing the start, albeit he was in the vicinity of the start.
